Hello!
You're here which means that you want to learn more about me.
My introduction to UX
I discovered UX after being hired on by the HCDE department where I assisted in the creation and running of my very first usability study. User-Centered Design methodology changed the way that I saw research where it was not just for academia, but could be used to enhance the experience of people using technology from a user’s perspective. Looking back, I still remember what it was like in the early 90's using DOS and Windows 3.1 to play Doom and Jetfighter 2 (my favorite games of the time). Yet I will never forget how much of a hassle it was attempting to change settings or do most things on the computer, you had to be unafraid to press buttons. It was a hard process back then to learn how to use even simple applications, and bugs were being played off as features. The user experience has come a long way, and now I hope to leave my mark, because I will put user needs first.
Before UX
Before starting my UX career at UW, I earned my Bachelors of Science in Experimental Psychology with a focus on Neuroscience and Cognition from Western Washington University. During my time at WWU, I was a research assistant in a neuroscience lab which researched Huntington's Disease, independent researcher focused on Mind Wandering, program assistant for Canadian-American Studies where I was part of the team that hosted and restarted the Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference, and assisted in the design and managed students involved in CAN-AM boarder studies for the BRPI. Yet, those all pale in comparison to my biggest accomplishment during my time at WWU. For a little over one year, I was a jury researcher for the Office of Public Defense working pro bono on high-profile cases.
Outside of UX
I enjoy motor racing, video games, the outdoors, model cars, learning more about UX strategies and methodologies, and listening to the podcast Users Know by Laura Klein and Kate Rutter, https://www.usersknow.com/.
I am often found at Seattle Bouldering Project or near a racetrack karting or tracking my car.
